Camera tool in Excel
The Camera tool allows you to select a range of cells and literally insert a live picture into a spreadsheet. Any change to the range of cells will automatically update the image.
The Camera tool allows you to select a range of cells and literally insert a live picture into a spreadsheet. Any change to the range of cells will automatically update the image.
In order to use the Camera tool, we must first add it to the Command Bar. There is a well documented tutorial on adding items to the command bar already available on Excelbuddy.com. Click Here to review that tutorial.
The method below will work on previous versions of Excel.
- Select View > Toolbars > Customize
- Select Command Tab, On the Customize dialog
- Scroll down to the Camera Icon
- Drag the Camera icon to your target toolbar
How to use the Camera Tool
- Start by selecting a range of cells.
- Next, click the Camera Icon.
- Click anywhere in the excel spreadsheet to paste the image. You can paste on multiple sheets.

I just used this cameral tool for a project I was working on and found this very useful. I use your website often when I get stumped with excel questions.
Hi Excelbud
You can also use this function by clicking Home Tab ==> Paste ==> As Picture ==> Copy as picture and then past as picture on any sheet (Excel 2007).
In previous version like Excel 2003, Select the required range then click edit while hold the shift key and a hidden command “copy as picture” will be appear so click the command. Paste anywhere on any sheet with normal paste command.
